Today, the City of Toronto announced its contingency plan for service delivery in the event of a labour disruption involving members of the Toronto Civic Employees' Union (TCEU) Local 416 (CUPE) and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 79.

"We remain very much committed to reaching negotiated settlements but we must also be responsible in preparing our operational contingency plans in advance of a potential labour disruption," said City Manager Peter Wallace. "As always, there is a high priority on maintaining public safety and ensuring the delivery of as many critical services as possible."

Our Ward 30 neighbourhoods are at the center of many new transit initiatives by the TTC, the City and Metrolinx, which is a provincial agency. The City of Toronto has created a webpage that enables residents to see the location of plows, sidewalk plows and salt trucks and when their street was serviced by the City's winter operations crews.

The new webpage uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) installed on plows and salt trucks to determine when a road was serviced by using a colour coded system. If a road was serviced within the last four hours, the road will be shown with a green line. If a road was serviced within the last four to 12 hours, the road will be shown with a blue line and if serviced between 12 to 24 hours, the road will be coloured red. The webpage is available at http://www.toronto.ca/plowTO.

Dear Friends,

Just under two years ago, I wrote to you asking for your help and support to keep the Red Door Shelter on Queen Street in Leslieville after a real estate deal gone bad put the Red Door's future in jeopardy.

Our community answered the call in an unprecedented way - over 50,000 people signed a petition to keep the Red Door in Leslieville, and hundreds of residents came to community meetings and to City Hall over the next two years to support the Red Door.
