Nathan Phillips Square will be illuminated for the annual Cavalcade of Lights presented by Great Gulf on Saturday, November 28 at 6 p.m.

This Toronto tradition kicks off the holiday season and will include the countdown to the first lighting of the City's official Christmas tree led by Mayor John Tory, musical performances by some of Canada's top talent, a spectacular fireworks show and two skating parties. The event takes place at Nathan Phillips Square, 100 Queen St. W.

The City of Toronto is advising residents who would like to help people in Toronto who are homeless and vulnerable this holiday season to consider the 2015 Holiday Wish List created with input from community agencies. The City surveyed agencies that run shelters, drop-ins and other services for homeless people, asking them what would bring cheer to their clients during the holidays.

It’s that time of the year again – winter!

A Canadian winter can sometimes mean a lot of snow, and the City of Toronto is ready.

Here are a few things that you can expect as we gear up for another winter in Toronto.

Prior to the onset of a storm, Transportation Services will be applying a layer of salt brine to hills and bridges throughout the city. The application of salt brine is intended to prevent the snow from bonding to the pavement and to make it easier to plow the snow to the side of the road.

Join Councillors Paula Fletcher and Mary Fragedakis and the Greektown on the Danforth BIA for a special Tree Lighting and Holiday Celebration in Withrow Park.

Come to Withrow Park on November 25 at 5:30pm as the festivities kick-off, and enjoy some holiday cheer and refreshments.

Please bring a non-perishable food item as a donation to a local food bank.

Toronto at your service

Renting in T.O.? Know your rights. Know your responsibilities. Hundreds of thousands of people rent their homes in Toronto. Every person living in a rental accommodation has the right to expect that property standards are met. The City's Municipal Licensing and Standards division enforces property standards across the city. If you have issues with the physical condition of your rental property (taps that don't work, heat isn't working, broken window), talk to your landlord first. If things don't improve, call 311. More information.

The City of Toronto's TalkTransformation! event series continues on November 26 with a conversation focused on reducing emissions from transportation, the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Toronto.

TalkTransformation! is a component of TransformTO, an initiative that will create a detailed action plan to reduce Toronto's greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by 2020 and a longer-term vision to achieve the City's 80 per cent reduction target by 2050. To date, city-wide emissions have been reduced by 25 per cent from 1990 levels.

2016 marks the 12TH anniversary of this much-loved publication, and they make great presents or stocking stuffers for friends and family, host/hostess gifts this holiday and for your colleagues at work, if not destined for your own home.

Help celebrate the natural heritage of our city and support the work of the Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation with every purchase.
