On Gerrard Street in busy East Chinatown sits the tall Eastdale Collegiate Institute. A concrete institution at first glance, but climb the school’s five storeys and you’ll discover Eden.

On the school’s rooftop, a terrace opens onto Toronto’s skyline; high above the neighbourhood’s surrounding buildings. It’s there that row upon row of fresh garden fruits, veggies and herbs sit growing, waiting for harvest.

Join your neighbours and fellow tree enthusiasts in an exciting exploration of the trees in Monarch Park. Councillor Fletcher will be hosting a tour of Monarch Park’s beautiful urban forest canopy with Jessica Piskorowski from LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests). On the tour we will visit and learn about the variety of trees in Monarch

Members of the street food vending industry and the general public are invited to attend town hall meetings as the City of Toronto's Municipal Licensing and Standards Division reviews the City's street food vending bylaws. The goal is to create a harmonized street food vending bylaw that balances the interests of all stakeholders and encourages a vibrant street food experience.

25,000 runners from 60 countries will cross our finish line, and in the process, they will be giving back to the neighbourhoods they run through. Last year the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon raised $4.3 million for 181 local charities like Autism Dog Services, St. Christopher House & Engineers Without Borders Canada – Run to End Poverty. With your support, we can reach new successes!

The City of Toronto is conducting public consultations to determine how to choose the next generation of Neighbourhood Improvement Areas – formerly known as Priority Neighbourhoods. The consultations are part of the development of the Toronto Strong Neighbourhoods Strategy 2020.

The strategy will deliver city-wide change by partnering with residents, businesses and agencies to invest in people, services, programs and facilities in Neighbourhood Improvement Areas. The strategy is designed to strengthen social, economic and physical conditions of neighbourhoods and supporting healthy communities across Toronto.

The Port Lands Experience

a photo exhibition at The Rotunda at Toronto City Hall.
The exhibition highlights the dramatic Port Lands in a series of super-wide panoramas. Wander through the photographs to discover the naturally wild zones winding past boating clubs and the iconic Hearn generating station between Cherry Beach and the Leslie St Spit. Marvel at the scale of this unique urban environment where lift bridges span shipping channels lined with salt and aggregate mounds that punctuate the broad landscape like pyramids and sphinxes.

Call it a planning invasion.

About 200 residents in the Leslieville/south Riverdale communities got a look at just how much planning work is being done on their behalf – for everything from transit to the port lands to public space for the growing community of Carlaw-Dundas.
