Danforth Avenue could be in for a massive planning makeover in 2019.

That's if Toronto Council approves the money for a comprehensive, overarching study of the seven kilometres from Broadview to past Victoria Park Avenue. On May 28, Toronto's budget committee sent a letter from Ward 30 (Toronto-Danforth) Coun. Paula Fletcher to senior city staff to come up with the plan for a study that would fold in ongoing work from three city departments.

The City of Toronto, in collaboration with the local screen industry, is launching xoTO Schools, a pilot program with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) to enable enhanced access for location filming at 11 pre-approved TDSB properties as well as interactive educational opportunities for students.

Mayor John Tory made the announcement today with Councillor Paula Fletcher (Ward 30 Toronto-Danforth), Chair of the Toronto Film, Television and Digital Media Board, alongside TDSB Director of Education John Malloy, TDSB Chair of the Board Robin Pilkey, TDSB Trustee Jennifer Story (Ward 15, Toronto-Danforth) and Victoria Harding, Associate Executive Director of the Directors Guild of Canada – Ontario.

In a controversial last-minute decision at the end of a three-day council meeting on Thursday, councillors voted to streamline the process for installing traffic calming measures on local streets.

Under a motion put forward by Councillor Paula Fletcher (Ward 30 Toronto-Danforth), community councils will now have the option of waiving a 2002 policy that requires local residents to first submit a petition, then vote in a poll conducted by the city clerk, before the city will agree to implement measures such as speed humps, pinch points and chicanes.

TTC streetcar crossing iconic Riverside Bridge highlight Toronto’s commitment to transit and its vibrant neighbourhoods

More than 100 Toronto runners accompanied Canadian Olympian Reid Coolsaet, Rachel Hannah of Team New Balance, and the RunTOBeer run crew on a “mystery run” last night. Starting from the Saulter Street Brewery and Eastbound Brewing the group ran to the Riverside Bridge where this year’s Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Half-Marathon & 5K finisher medals were revealed. On Sunday, October 21st, some 25,000 runners from more than 70 countries around the world will take home one of these medals as a much-cherished souvenir of their Toronto running experience.

The city will fill in the final gap in the Martin Goodman Trail, the waterfront path that runs along Lake Ontario from Rouge Park in the east to the Humber River in the west, Mayor John Tory announced on Saturday.

Speaking at a news conference with Councillor Paula Fletcher (Ward 30, Toronto-Danforth), Tory said filling in a one-kilometre gap at Tommy Thompson Park will increase the safety of the park and help unite the city.

On May 12th Mayor John Tory joined Councillor Paula Fletcher (Ward 30 Toronto-Danforth), City staff and representatives from the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and CreateTO at Tommy Thompson Park to announce the plans to complete a section of the Martin Goodman Trail along Unwin Avenue this summer.

This section of the Martin Goodman Trail will complete the last link of the 20 km cycling and walking trail along Toronto's waterfront from the western to the eastern beaches.

I am very excited to announce the East End “Bridges to Art” Underpass Project.

This is a project I initiated in 2017 with the idea of painting a series of murals on the rail bridges in the Carlaw-Dundas area as part of the Carlaw Dundas Community Initiative.

The Carlaw-Dundas area is a former industrial area that has transformed into a hub of cultural and creative businesses and residents. As part of the larger initiative, a suite of public space improvement projects are being undertaken.

Take action
