October 13 - Matty Eckler Community Recreation Centre Re-Opening

Event to celebrate the re-opening of Toronto's Matty Eckler Community Recreation Centre

September 29 - Environment Day

This year, our Community Environment Day has moved from Canada Day to its own day in September. Join us in Riverdale Park (east) for activities, compost pick up and to dispose of recyclable materials.

Septemper 15th - Joel Weeks Park Opening

Councillor Paula Fletcher, Ward 30, Toronto Danforth along with staff from the City of Toronto and Toronto Community Housing will join members of the community to celebrate the opening of the park on Saturday, September 15.

Official Opening Ceremony: 2 p.m. Community Celebration: 12 noon to 8 p.m. Location: Joel Weeks Park, 10 Thompson St.

Now is the time to register for fall recreation programs

Registration for fall and some winter City of Toronto recreation programs begins September 8 in Etobicoke/York, September 9 in Scarborough, September 11 in North York, and September 12 in Toronto and East York. Starting on those dates, it will be possible to register for fall and winter general programs, fall skating and swimming lessons, and December holiday camps.

September 6 - Monarch Park Tree Tour

Join your neighbours and fellow tree enthusiasts in an exciting exploration of the trees in Monarch Park. I will be hosting the tour of Monarch Park’s beautiful urban forest canopy with Amanda Gomm of LEAF (Local Enhancement and Appreciation of Forests).

On the tour we will visit and learn about the variety of trees in Monarch Park and the many benefits they bring to the community. The walk will also be an opportunity to find out more about other exciting local neighbourhood initiatives.

September 10 - Heritage Open House

Proposed Official Plan Policies Official Plan Review

As part of the current review of the Toronto Official Plan, the City is updating and strengthening the Official Plan heritage policies. After consultation with the public and with assistance from a team of consultants, new proposed Official Plan heritage policies have been drafted and presented to Council for public discussion. The City wants your opinion on these policies before they go forward for Council’s consideration.

Call to Artists for Expressions of Interest for Permanent Public Art Work in the new park in Rivertowne

The City of Toronto’s Public Art Office (Cultural Services, Economic Development and Culture) works with staff across City of Toronto divisions and agencies, boards and commissions to identify exciting new opportunities for commissioning innovative contemporary artworks in the City’s public spaces.

A public art opportunity has been generated by the creation of a new park in the Rivertowne Neighbourhood (Toronto Danforth - Ward 30), a project led by the Toronto Community Housing Corporation and the City’s Parks, Forestry & Recreation Division.

August 8 - Final Port Lands Public Meeting

Waterfront Toronto and the City of Toronto are nearing completion of a business and implementation plan for the Port Lands Acceleration Initiative. Public input has played a key role in shaping the plan to date.

A final public meeting is being held to present updated findings and draft recommendations including the business case. The public meeting will include an overview presentation and facilitated roundtable discussions for participants to provide feedback on the findings, recommendations and business case.
