The Community Safety Investment Funding Program is an investment funding program that helps the City of Toronto achieve its social, economic and cultural goals by engaging community-based organizations in efforts to reduce violence and increase safety for the most vulnerable groups in Toronto.

The Community Safety Investment (CSI) program provides short term funding for outcome focused activities that build community capacity for violence prevention and increase safety for the most vulnerable groups in Toronto. The two primary goals of this funding program are:

It’s official. The Toronto Transit Commission has a new name – Leslie Barns – for its newest home for Toronto’s streetcars. Formerly known as the “Ashbridges Bay Streetcar Maintenance and Storage Facility,” Leslie Barns is now under construction at the southeast corner of Lake Shore Boulevard and Leslie Street.

New Streetcars… New Home

When construction is complete in July 2014, Leslie Barns will provide a state-of-the-art storage and maintenance facility for Toronto’s new streetcar fleet. Existing TTC streetcar facilities − the Roncesvalles and Russell (Connaught) Carhouses − are both over 80 years old and cannot support the maintenance and full storage needs of the new streetcar fleet. However, they will continue operating to store approximately half of the new streetcars.

The City of Toronto has launched an online survey to gather information from taxicab passengers. The results will be used as part of an analysis of the appropriate number of taxicabs in the city.

The survey looks to gain information about how often people use taxicabs, when and where people usually get taxicabs and how long people typically wait for their ride.

The City of Toronto announced today that the city's third Street Needs Assessment will be held during the evening of April 17.

About 700 volunteers are needed to assist with the 13-question survey of people who are homeless. The survey will be combined with a point-in-time estimate of the number of homeless people in the city who are sleeping outdoors, as well as staying in temporary accommodation in emergency shelters, Violence Against Women shelters, and in correctional facilities and health and treatment centres.

The City of Toronto is launching a public consultation campaign on January 31, 2013 to engage Torontonians on a range of issues related to transportation planning, priorities, and funding. This engagement will support and inform the comprehensive review of the City's Official Plan transportation policies; the development of a new long-term transportation plan; and the development of a funding & investment strategy.
