The City of Toronto’s Public Art Office (Cultural Services, Economic Development and Culture) works with staff across City of Toronto divisions and agencies, boards and commissions to identify exciting new opportunities for commissioning innovative contemporary artworks in the City’s public spaces.

A public art opportunity has been generated by the creation of a new park in the Rivertowne Neighbourhood (Toronto Danforth - Ward 30), a project led by the Toronto Community Housing Corporation and the City’s Parks, Forestry & Recreation Division.

Waterfront Toronto and the City of Toronto are nearing completion of a business and implementation plan for the Port Lands Acceleration Initiative. Public input has played a key role in shaping the plan to date.

A final public meeting is being held to present updated findings and draft recommendations including the business case. The public meeting will include an overview presentation and facilitated roundtable discussions for participants to provide feedback on the findings, recommendations and business case.

The Toronto Environment Office will begin receiving applications for the fall round of Live Green Toronto Grants on Tuesday, September 4.

  • Honouring Jack Layton: Jack Layton's message of hope and optimism has inspired people across Canada, and his legacy of public service in Toronto-Danforth will not be forgotten. As Jack's colleague and friend, I was proud of Council's unanimous decision to rename Toronto Ferry Terminal the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. Jack fought to protect the unique character of the Toronto Islands and Toronto's waterfront. This dedication is particularly fitting.

I would like to share with you the development applications for the Weston Bakery site and their parking lot across the street, which will be introduce at Planning and Growth Committee on Monday, June 18.

This is the first formal step of a longer process before any final decisions are made. At this stage, the Planning and Growth Committee does not approve the development in any way, but simply agrees that the development process can be initiated. If this clears on Monday, I will set up an information session for the community with the planner in order to start to look at this application and understand the development process.
