On Tuesday April 24th, Ralph Thornton Centre is holding a community discussion on "Our Changing Neighbourhood."

Our neighbourhood has been changing rapidly – and there’s more to come! Join neighbours from across the ward to hear about the issues and discuss what might be done. It will be a panel presentation and discussion moderated by Christopher Hume, architecture and urban issues columnist for The Toronto Star.

What helps an arts-based business grow? Answers to that question and other key business questions are the focal point of the City of Toronto's sixth annual Small Business Arts Forum.

What: Small business arts forum on creatively financing growth in the arts Where: North York Civic Centre When: April 24, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

From Phil Lameira of Beach Metro Community News:

On March 22 an overwhelming 60 or more volunteer representatives of various youth sports leagues and organizations came together at a forum at Sherbourne Community Centre to discuss the newly implemented outdoor field permit fees for child and youth sports leagues.

These attendees represented almost all of the youth sports leagues in Toronto, from netball to baseball, from lacrosse to cricket.

From Joanna Lavoie of Inside Toronto:

A town hall on the city's newly instituted permit fees for those using its sports fields will be held on Tuesday, April 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Toronto City Hall Council Chambers, 100 Queen St. W.

...

These new user fees for sports fields came as a surprise to many as they were essentially buried in the 2012 budget, said local Councillor Paula Fletcher.

From Joanna Lavoie of Inside Toronto:

Bed bugs are a serious problem in this city and the province must continue providing funding to fight them.

That was the message Ward 30 Councillor Paula Fletcher, alongside representatives from several community agencies, shared during a recent press conference at city hall.

....

Fletcher, a member of the Toronto Board of Health, said the city is at the "cutting edge" of treatment and education having done more than 4,000 inspections in 2011 alone.

I would like to begin by thanking each of you for the countless hours of volunteer time you contribute to children and youth across the City. Our recent discussions and email exchanges regarding the newly instituted Sports Field Permit fees have been especially helpful and I am writing to invite you to join me and my colleagues at a Town Hall to continue the discussion and to get your input on a solution that works for everyone.

2011 was the best year since 2002 for Toronto's film, television and commercial production industry, with more than $1.13 billion in direct expenditures contributed to the local economy. Toronto's film, television and digital media sector is essential to Toronto. Beyond employing more than 25,000 people and annually contributing in excess of $1 billion to the city's economy, it adds to the Toronto brand, internationally attracting investment and talent to the city.
