Council unanimously approves asking province for funding to stop bed bugs

Bed bugs are a serious problem in this city and the province must continue providing funding to fight them.

That was the message Ward 30 Councillor Paula Fletcher, alongside representatives from several community agencies, shared during a recent press conference at city hall.

Fletcher, a member of the Toronto Board of Health, said the city is at the "cutting edge" of treatment and education having done more than 4,000 inspections in 2011 alone.

"It's not a large amount of money but it goes a long way. Bed bugs love austerity and we shouldn't give those little critters a leg up. We'll pay for that later," she said, noting city council unanimously voted to in favour of supporting a renewal of the provincial funding. Read the full article at Inside Toronto.
