Coun. Paula Fletcher receives plenty of calls from her constituents in Ward 30. But she did a double take listening to one caller who described the scene on their street.

"There was a kangaroo on a leash. It was a part of a number of exotic animals being taken out and on display," Fletcher recounted.

"And I thought, 'That's just not how we can have animals treated in our community.'"

Groups that tour the country showing students animals such as porcupines and foxes fear proposed bylaw changes in Canada’s largest city could prevent them from bringing their creatures to Toronto.

Metrolinx, an agency of the Province of Ontario, is upgrading its commuter rail system into Regional Express Rail. The Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) is now home to nearly 7 million people and heading towards 10 million by 2041. To address the urgent transit needs of the GTHA, the Province of Ontario committed to implement Regional Express Rail and make other improvements to the GO system. By 2025, electrified trains will be running every 15 minutes or better, all day and in both directions, within the most heavily travelled sections of the GO network.

May Birchard was a City of Toronto councillor and anti-poverty activist. During the First World War the family moved to Winnipeg. On her return to Toronto in the mid-1930s, Birchard founded the The Good Neighbours' Club, now Haven Toronto, which continues to operate on Jarvis Street.

The City of Toronto is updating its Multi-year Accessibility Plan and wants input from the public. The City would like to understand the source of barriers faced by people with disabilities, and what we could do differently to reduce the impact of that barrier. All feedback, from people with disabilities, disability advocates and the general public, is welcome.

Withrow Park Is Getting a New Rink! I am delighted to announce that Withrow Park will be getting a brand new, state of the art rink for the many skaters, ice and ball hockey players to enjoy. The new rink is in the design phase now.  Here is a sneak preview of the "conceptual" design.

Construction is scheduled to take place in the spring/fall of 2018 and if the weather cooperates

City of Toronto extends permit cancellations on Toronto Island Park due to flooding

Due to the continuing flood conditions on Toronto Island Park, permit cancellation has been extended to July 31. More than 300 permits for about 90 groups or individuals have been affected by flooding. City of Toronto staff are working with permit holders to provide any available options for rescheduling or relocating their events. Permits that cannot be rescheduled or relocated will be refunded through the usual processes. Permit holders should call 311 for assistance.

Tiverton Park Construction Starts Tuesday, September 5th

I am delighted to let you know that the revitalization of Tiverton Park is set to begin on Tuesday morning September 5. The park will be closed as removals and demolition of the existing playground takes place. If the weather cooperates the work is scheduled for completion in December 2017.

I am very happy to share with you the final designs for Tiverton Park.
