The City of Toronto Urban Design Awards recognize a wide range of projects that demonstrate improvements to the built environment and quality of public places in the city. The Call for Entries is now open.
Designers, developers, project owners, community groups, design students and others are invited to enter eligible projects no later than 12:00p.m., noon on April 29, 2019. Submission categories include: Elements, Private Buildings in Context, Public Buildings in Context, Small Open Spaces, Large Places or Neighbourhood Designs, Visions and Master Plans, and Student Projects.
The City of Toronto will begin removing snow from neighbourhood and arterial streets at various times and locations over the next five to seven days. Dozens of crews working 12-hour shifts will use snow blowers, loaders and dump trucks to pick up and move snow to City storage facilities.
With temperatures forecast to remain cold for the next several days, and with the current snow and ice accumulation, staff will prioritize streets to ensure safety, including for emergency vehicles.
The City of Toronto is inviting residents and industry members to share their views on the Vehicle-for-Hire Bylaw at a series of public meetings, starting on March 4. The bylaw provides regulations for taxicabs, limousines and private transportation companies (PTC), such as Lyft and Uber.

The Riverdale Park East hill has been shut down by the City of Toronto for the rest of the winter due to safety concerns.
The popular toboggan hill was officially fenced-off a little over three weeks ago as a result of its dangerous bumps and ridges. The hill was shut down by city staff after the park’s operations management deemed its condition to have deteriorated and become unsafe.
Registration for City of Toronto spring and summer recreation programs as well as summer camps starts this Saturday, March 2. The City is the largest provider of safe, fun and high-quality recreation programs for people of all ages, skill levels and interests in Toronto.
To help residents prepare for registration, customer service hours have been extended. Residents can call 416-396-7378 from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on February 27 and 28, March 1 and 4.

Winterfest 2019 is taking place on Sunday, March 3rd at Greenwood Rink. New this year will be a Skate Exchange run by the City's Recreation staff. Residents are encouraged to drop off skates from February 23rd to March 3rd at Greenwood Rink or at Eastview Neighbourhood Community Centre at 86 Blake Street .
The Skate Exchange will run from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on March 3rd at Greenwood Rink where residents can donate, exchange or get a pair of skates at no cost.
