Thursday, April 16, is the day when commercial landlords can lock the doors of business tenants who have not been able to pay their rent due to the COVID-19 crisis.

City of Toronto expands Digital Main Street program to help local businesses during COVID-19 pandemic
Today, Mayor John Tory announced the expansion of the Digital Main Street program to help local businesses develop or expand their online services during this unprecedented time.
Digital Main Street was created by the City of Toronto and the Toronto Association of Business Improvement Areas (TABIA) in 2016 to assist main street businesses in growing their operations through technology with easy to use tools and resources. The program is also supported by Google, Mastercard, Shopify and Microsoft.

City of Toronto to continue yard waste collection for another two weeks
The City of Toronto will continue yard waste collection for another two weeks from April 20 to May 1 to accommodate residents. The start of seasonal yard waste collection was suspended in March as part of the City’s COVID-19 response to ensure adequate staffing levels to continue the core collection of garbage, blue bin (recycling) and green bin (organics).
Toronto, ON – Tomorrow, April 16th, commercial landlords can lock the doors of small businesses that have not paid their April rent.
“This could mean boarded up stores along the Danforth, Queen, Gerrard and Pape as well as commercial streets throughout Toronto,” said Councillor Paula Fletcher. “Without action, it could take years for small businesses to recover.”

From Thursday April 9 to Friday April 17, there will be partial lane closures on Lake Shore Boulevard between Don Roadway and Carlaw Avenue.
Crews on Lake Shore Boulevard between Don Roadway and Carlaw Avenue will be inspecting the condition of existing utilities. They will also be conducting surveys to support the ongoing design for modifications to the existing Lake Shore Bridge.

City of Toronto provides update on COVID-19 supports for individuals experiencing homelessness
Today, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Eileen de Villa, General Manager of the City’s Shelter, Support & Housing Administration (SSHA), Mary-Anne Bédard, University Health Network Executive Director of Health and Social Policy, Dr. Andrew Boozary, and Inner City Health Associates (ICHA) Medical Director, Dr. Andrew J. Bond, provided an update on existing and forthcoming actions taken to protect individuals experiencing homelessness from COVID-19.
It started simply enough. Toronto real estate broker Nectaria Kladitis asked some older clients if they needed assistance during the COVID-19 crisis and sent a small post to her neighbourhood social media group wondering about how the community might voluntarily assist others who couldn’t leave their homes.

City of Toronto reminds residents to maintain physical distancing over the holidays
Mayor John Tory, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa, and Fire Chief and Manager of the Office of Emergency Management Matthew Pegg, today, provided an update on the City’s continuing response to COVID-19.
Toronto Public Health is reporting there are now 1,570 cases of COVID-19 in Toronto. Of the cases, 1,332 cases are confirmed and 238 are probable, 156 are in hospital with 71 in ICU. In Toronto, there have been 49 deaths to-date. This data was extracted from the Integrated Public Health Information System at 12:30 p.m. The numbers may differ from other sources as data are extracted at different times.
