Leslie Street Spit Update: March-April 2024

I hope you are well.

The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is hosting a Community Litter Clean-up Day at Tommy Thompson Park on Saturday, April 27th as part of their Earth Day programming.

Help remove floatable litter from the shoreline and waterways of Tommy Thompson Park while learning about floatable litter and microplastics and their impacts on the health of our aquatic ecosystems. Learn more and register here.

Recent enforcement and engagement activities are as follows:

Over the weekend of March 9th and 10th, TRCA staff reported no dogs, fires or e-bikes at Tommy Thompson Park, with limited visitors over this wet and windy weekend. The Nature Interpreter team spoke with 30 park visitors about wildlife and nature at the Leslie Street Spit.

Over the weekend of March 16th and 17th, TRCA staff reported no dogs or fires and two e-bikes while the Nature Interpreter team spoke with 80 park visitors.

Over the weekend of March 23rd and 24th, staff reported one dog and no fires or e-bikes while the Nature Interpreter team spoke with 60 park visitors.

Over the long weekend of March 29th, 30th and 31st, staff reported 13 e-bikes though no fires or dogs while the Nature Interpreter team spoke with 169 park visitors.

Over the weekend of April 6th and 7th, TRCA staff reported two dogs, no fires and three e-bikes while the Nature Interpreter team spoke with 65 park visitors.

Over this past weekend of April 13th and 14th, TRCA staff reported four dogs, no fires and 13 e-vehicles while the Nature Interpreter team spoke with 65 park visitors.
