Community Update on LRV Route

LRV Community Meeting

Tuesday, July 5th 6:30pm

Leslieville Public School, 254 Leslie St.

Like many of you, I support the new streetcars and renewal of transit for the downtown but I do not support the Leslie Street route. At the TTC meeting on February 2nd I reiterated my opposition to Leslie Street being used as the connecting route. The Commission agreed to re-evaluate the Knox – Eastern Avenue route and report back in June.  The report is now coming to the July 6th TTC meeting taking place at 1:00 p.m., Second Floor, City Hall.

I also learned that Toronto Water, Enbridge Gas, Bell Canada, Rogers, Toronto Hydro and Hydro One all have underground infrastructure on Leslie Street that would have to be re-located at significant cost in order to accommodate a streetcar track. This information adds more weight to the already substantive list of reasons why Leslie Street doesn't make sense.

I have invited TTC Chair Councillor Karen Stintz and transit advocate Steve Munro to a community meeting on Tuesday, July 5th at Leslieville Public School. This will provide you with an opportunity to express your concerns directly to the TTC in advance of the Commission meeting.

If you oppose the Leslie Street route, you can make a deputation or send a letter to the TTC. If you would like to appear before the TTC Commission or comment in a letter send an e-mail to [email protected].  Requests to appear as a speaker will be accepted in writing until 12:00 noon on July 5th.  For information on the Commission please call 416-393-3698 or visit www.ttc.ca

Your input is extremely important. Please copy me on your letters to the TTC. Thank you for your continued involvement in this process. I look forward to seeing you on July 5th or July 6th.

Sincerely,

Paula Fletcher
