My motion calling on the federal government to block the expansion of the Portlands Energy Centre here in Ward 14 was adopted by City Council this week.
Last week's forest fires and resulting air quality warnings for Toronto underscored the critical need to drastically cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Unfortunately, the province doesn't believe they require municipal consent to burn more fossil fuels at the Portlands Energy Centre.
That's why I moved a motion this week at City Council calling on the federal government to block the expansion of the Portlands Energy Centre here in Ward 14.
The existing facility is the single biggest source of emissions in the city. Expanding it would prevent the city from meeting our TransformTO climate strategy's goal of net zero emissions by 2040.
