Today, Mayor John Tory launched the City of Toronto’s Welcome T.O. Winter parks plan.

Throughout the pandemic, the City has remained committed to providing people with safe opportunities for recreation. To help people stay active this winter season, the City is highlighting its offering of new and enhanced exercise-based recreation activities in parks locations across Toronto.

The City of Toronto today moved into the Grey – Lockdown category of the Province of Ontario’s COVID-19 response framework. These new provincial regulations cover the requirements of the Section 22 order under the Health Promotion and Protection Act issued by Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Eileen de Villa, last week; accordingly, the Section 22 order has been revoked. The City supports all efforts to reduce and eliminate the transmission of COVID-19.

The City of Toronto today updated facility and service information with changes to come into effect tomorrow, Monday, November 23, when the city moves into the Grey – Lockdown category of the Province of Ontario’s COVID-19 response framework. The Province of Ontario today announced further measures in Toronto and Peel Region to slow the spread of COVID-19, effective this Monday, November 23. There are 36,821 cases of COVID-19 in the city, an increase of 420 new cases today. There are 174 people hospitalized. In total, 30,838 people have recovered from COVID-19. To date, there have been 1,515 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto. The City of Toronto will more than double its supply of winter park washrooms from 64 to 143 as part of its ongoing response to COVID-19.

City staff are presenting a plan and report to November City Council that will add 79 new winter washrooms across the city on top of the 64 locations typically available. The report comes in response to a request by City Council last month to explore expanding the number of public washrooms available throughout the winter.

New cycling track upgrades are being installed on Dundas Street East, following a collaborative effort from Toronto-Danforth Councillor Paula Fletcher and the city’s transportation services.

Installation began on Monday, Nov. 10 with pre-marking of the cycle track.

The upgrades to lanes on Dundas Street East between Broadview Avenue and Kingston Road come after a city council motion that passed on July 28, 2020.

The City of Toronto continues to respond to COVID-19. Today, Mayor John Tory, Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Eileen de Villa, and Fire Chief and General Manager of the Office of Emergency Management Matthew Pegg provided an update on the City’s measures to combat the resurgence of the virus in Toronto.

There are 35,130 cases of COVID-19 in the city, an increase of 538 new cases today. There are 176 people hospitalized. In total, 29,079 people have recovered from COVID-19. To date, there have been 1,464 COVID-19 deaths in Toronto. Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Eileen de Villa, has now issued an order under Section 22 of the Province of Ontario’s Health Protection and Promotion Act, as announced on Tuesday, November 10, to strengthen COVID-19 protections in the city.

As of 12:01 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, November 14, the order will come into force as the Province of Ontario places Toronto into the Red – Control category of the provincial COVID-19 response framework. The order extends prohibitions on indoor dining and indoor group fitness classes, and requires casinos, bingo halls, gambling establishments, meeting and event spaces (including banquet halls and conference centres), as well as hookah cafes and lounges to remain closed for a 28-day period.
