After working for many years to secure funding and approvals for this project, I'm pleased we'll soon have more affordable and accessible co-operative housing in Toronto-Danforth.
Riverdale Co-op's newly re-developed housing site at 685 Queen Street East is nearing completion.
I worked for many years to secure approvals and funding for this project, including a $5 million contribution through the community benefits agreement for Riverside Square.
As part of the funding agreement with the city, Riverdale Co-op has agreed to operate the new building as an affordable housing project in perpetuity.
The current re-development includes an extensive renovation of the existing building and the addition of 17 new units, for a total of 26 units.
The new building will be fully accessible with studio, one, two and three-bedroom units available. Construction is expected to be completed this December 2023 and occupancy beginning in January 2024.
I'm pleased to see this project nearing completion and to soon have more affordable and accessible co-operative housing in Toronto-Danforth.
