I joined with my colleagues Councillors Ausma Malik and Chris Moise to start this subcommittee in response to concerns from residents and community stakeholders about Metrolinx's lack of public engagement and communication on construction impacts.
At our February 23rd meeting, Toronto and East York Community Council members unanimously supported the creation of the Subcommittee on Ontario Line Construction. This sub-committee will allow the City of Toronto to set clear recommendations to Metrolinx to ensure the best results are achieved for Toronto residents in terms of design, construction and community benefit.
I joined with my colleagues Councillors Ausma Malik and Chris Moise to start the subcommittee as our wards will be most impacted by Ontario Line construction.
This comes in response to concerns from residents and community stakeholders who expressed frustration with the lack of public engagement and communication from Metrolinx on the impacts of their construction, traffic, trees and parks and businesses as they roll out this important new transit infrastructure.
The first meeting will be in March where we will determine scope and timeframes for the committee.
