New for this year's Nuit Talks is Forever Friday, a night of artistic expression featuring a special video message from renowned artist Ai Weiwei, live performances by Lal and Whitehorse, a special DJ set from k-os, and much more.

History: Back to Basics
Date and time: Wednesday, October 2 from 7:30 to 9 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m.

Personal narratives and a contemporary framing of culture and history are explored in this talk featuring artists Brendan Fernandes (Night Shift), Maggie Groat (Free Land) and Warren Quigley (Human Sweat Generator), and moderator Sasha Suda, Curator, Art Gallery of Ontario.
Modernity: The Rise of Modern Art
Reinventing the readymade, making the ordinary extraordinary
Date and time: Thursday, October 3, with the main event from 7 to 11:30 p.m. and Nuit Talks and Project Previews from 8 to 10:30 p.m.
Location: Art Gallery of Ontario, 317 Dundas St. W.
This talk will feature Ami Barak, the curator of the Off to a flying start exhibition, as he takes a look at the iconic concept of Marcel Duchamp's readymade and how it is being applied in this year's projects by Scotiabank Nuit Blanche artists Ai Weiwei (Forever Bicycles), Michel de Broin (Tortoise), Kim Adams (Toaster Work Wagon), Lisa Hirmer of Dodolab (A Quack Cure), and Claire Ironside and Ruth Spitzer ((X)Static Clown Factory). For the first time in Nuit Talks' history, previews of select Scotiabank Nuit Blanche projects will be presented.
A special presentation in partnership with Art Gallery of Ontario's First Thursdays, this event will include musical performances by Toronto pop-folk innovator Sandro Perri with a full band, and singer/songwriter Jennifer Castle. Future: Science & Technology in artistic expression

Exploring the merger of art and technology in artists' work, this lunchtime talk with moderator Noah Cowan, Artistic Director of TIFF Bell Lightbox, and artists Claire Ironside ((X)Static Clown Factory), Max Dean (Cancer is our Story) and Charles Stankievech (The Soniferous Æther of The Land Beyond The Land Beyond), will discuss trends for the future and the use of science and technology in artistic expression. This talk will feature Orion's Tide, a video installation by artist Kelly Richardson, in Cinema 5.
Forever Friday: Modernity and the Era of Activism

Controversy, political activism, art, film, music, social media and fame are all part of the global phenomenon that is international artist Ai Weiwei (Forever Bicycles). Nuit Talks presents Forever Friday, an exclusive addition to this year's series, exploring the theme of freedom of speech and artistic expression through art. The evening will feature live painting by Gene Pendon; C Hudson Hwang's "Fake Fake" video reinterpretation of the works of Ai Weiwei; performances by Lal and Whitehorse; and a DJ set from k-os.

This year's three exhibition areas are explored with a public, academic and institutional curatorial lens. Curators for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2013 - Ami Barak (Off to a flying start), Patrick Macaulay (PARADE), and Ivan Jurakic and Crystal Mowry (Romancing the Anthropocene) - will talk with moderator Gaëtane Verna, Director of the Power Plant.
