Not Far from the Tree

Not Far From the Tree is now active in the Riverdale area.  The group runs a residential fruit-picking program, picking fruit from trees that would otherwise go to waste. They help fruit tree owners make use of the abundance of fruit that their trees offer by dispatching teams of volunteers to harvest it for them. One third goes to the fruit tree owners, another third goes to the volunteers for their labour, and the final third is distributed (by bicycle or cart) to community organizations in the neighbourhood who can make good use of the fresh fruit.

Not Far From the Tree was involved in tapping maple trees in Riverdale last spring, and now are offering fruit picking in the Ward 30 area.

If you would like to sign up to have your fruit tree picked or become a volunteer, check out Not Far From the Tree’s website at http://www.notfarfromthetree.org or contact Chris Sharp, the Riverdale hub coordinator at [email protected]

It’s too late for cherries this year, but apricots, pears, and apples will be ripening soon!
