Registration for City of Toronto fall recreation programs as well as December holiday camps starts Saturday, September 12 and continues next week. Torontonians can expect to see many of their favourite registered recreation programs, including swimming and skating lessons, on offer this fall. The City is Toronto’s largest provider of safe, fun and high-quality recreation programs for people of all ages, skill levels and interests.
To support our city and the culture that brings our communities together, STEPS recently launched the "I heART Main Street Art Challenge." STEPS is providing artists and Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) with the opportunity to increase feelings of trust and community through DIY art installations.
The 42 new artworks currently underway were brought to life in collaboration with 25 local creatives; many of whom identify as emerging or BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) artists who have been impacted by a loss of income as a result of the pandemic.
For the first time in Toronto’s history, the City’s 50 Automated Speed Enforcement cameras will be fully operational throughout the back-to-school season to protect the health and safety of children returning to school by curbing speeding and providing an opportunity to walk and cycle in a safe environment.
On July 6, 2020, all 50 speed cameras began issuing tickets to vehicles traveling in excess of the posted speed limit. Between July 6 and August 5, one month following the start of issuing tickets, the speed cameras issued a total of 22,301 tickets.
Since mid-March, the City of Toronto’s Emergency Operations Centre has been activated in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the last six months, the City has made significant strides to contain the spread of the virus and support the recovery and rebuild of the city.
Toronto has made it through the summer with good progress in the fight against COVID-19.
Today, Mayor John Tory announced the extension of the summer season at select City outdoor pools. Torontonians can stretch out the summer at 10 City outdoor pools which will remain open until September 13, with the remainder closing as planned on Sunday, September 6.
The ten outdoor pools include:

Today, Mayor John Tory, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa, City Manager Chris Murray and City Councillor and Chair of Toronto Board of Health Joe Cressy, presented the City’s COVID-19 Resurgence Plan, which outlines priorities and associated actions that the City will implement in the event of a resurgence of COVID-19.

Today, Mayor John Tory has proclaimed August 31 as Overdose Awareness Day in the City of Toronto. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the devastating impact of the ongoing opioid poisoning crisis in Toronto, and to help reduce stigma and discrimination against people who use drugs.
In the midst of the ongoing opioid poisoning crisis, the City acknowledges the grief and loss felt by families, friends and colleagues of loved ones who have died or suffered illness or injury due to opioid poisoning.

The Gerrard East Market is a new beach-themed patio offering food and drinks from many local businesses in the area.
The collaborative effort to open a patio was achieved by local businesses Poor Romeo, Dive Shop (formerly Hotel Delilah), Vatican Gift Shop, PYMBO Investments, and soon-to-open businesses Two Cats Cannabis, and a wine bar called Gardel
The City of Toronto will be holding Community Environment Days at the City’s seven Drop-Off Depots on Sundays throughout September and October. The events begin September 13 and will run until November 1, 2020. The drive-thru events will allow for the safe disposal of household hazardous waste and electronic items and donation of materials such as household goods and clothing for reuse.
