New web page identifies construction affecting Toronto's main roads

The City of Toronto has established a new web page that lists construction projects taking place on main roads, with the intention of helping people make choices in planning their travel on Toronto's streets.

"This online information will help residents and visitors alike as they make plans to travel in the city," said Mayor Rob Ford. "This information will also give people a sense of the extent of work the City is doing across Toronto to improve the transportation infrastructure as part of our ongoing focus on fighting traffic congestion."

The list, at, provides information about where the construction is occurring, the length of time scheduled for the construction, and its impact on the roadway for example, how many lanes are closed.

'This is critical work that needs to be done to improve the quality of our transportation network," said Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong (Ward 34 Don Valley East), Chair of the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee. "The City has taken significant steps to co-ordinate this work and to save money by bundling projects from all stakeholders who perform construction work. This helps us to manage disruption as much as possible for the travelling public."

The online list of projects will describe current and planned construction on main roads, but will not include emergency work by the City or by utility or telecommunication companies, or private construction work that results in lane closures.

The list identifies City projects that are taking place on main roads. A complete list of construction projects on all roads that could affect traffic flow in Toronto is available at Every effort is made to follow project timelines but changing circumstances may sometimes require changes to project schedules.

The construction projects identified online are part of the City's comprehensive, co-ordinated strategy to rehabilitate and upgrade Toronto's roads, transit and underground infrastructure for current and future needs.
