Keeping Pape Kids Safe During Ontario Line Construction

I moved a motion at City Council this week asking that Metrolinx form a construction liaison committee – made up of Metrolinx, the City of Toronto, representatives of Pape Avenue Public School and local residents - to deal with a myriad of issues that the construction project could create for the school children.

Recently the Parents of Pape Avenue Junior Public School met with Metrolinx about the upcoming Ontario Line Early Works construction slated to happen around the school.

I moved a motion at City Council this week asking that Metrolinx form a construction liaison committee – made up of Metrolinx, the City of Toronto, representatives of Pape Avenue Public School and local residents.

At my request, Toronto Council has asked that the committee meet weekly, to deal with a myriad of issues that the construction project could create for the school children.

The school on Pape between Langley and Riverdale Avenues, is very close to the Gerrard portal, where the Ontario Line transitions from above to below ground. In the near future, Metrolinx will be relocating utilities, performing an archeological investigation and an environmental assessment, before it even gets down to work on tunneling.

We have also asked senior City staff to set up a meeting with parents and community members in the surrounding area, and to require Metrolinx to take every measure to ensure the ongoing safety of the local community with respect to pedestrian safety, noise and vibration impacts, and any other construction impact of the Ontario Line.
