Petition: Support Affordable Housing

I've started a petition calling on the provincial government and developer ChoiceREIT to include affordable housing in the development project planned for the future Gerrard Station on the Ontario Line at Riverdale Plaza.

A 'Transit-Oriented Community' (TOC) is a special arrangement between Infrastructure Ontario and a private developer to allow for significant increases in density at stations along the Ontario Line.

A TOC is being planned for the future Gerrard Station on the Ontario Line at Riverdale Plaza. You can read a report here.

Since this TOC was announced, I have pressed Infrastructure Ontario and the developer ChoiceREIT to add affordable housing into their plan. I am very disappointed that no commitment to include affordable housing has been made.

At Toronto and East York Community Council I submitted the following motions which City Council will debate at our May meeting:

  1. City Council request the Provincial Government require a minimum of 20 percent affordable housing on the Provincial Transit Oriented Community site at Gerrard/Carlaw.
  2. City Council request ChoiceReit and Infrastructure Ontario to make a public commitment to add 20 percent of affordable units for 50 years guaranteed affordability to the their proposed Rezoning at the Provincial Transit Oriented Community site at Gerrard and Carlaw.

I know our community strongly supports more affordable housing.

Make your voice heard! Sign my petition.

Working for you,

Paula
