Council Votes Unanimously to Support the Red Door

I'm thrilled to report great news from the floor of Council - we just voted unanimously to approve my motion to secure the financial backing and security the Red Door Shelter needs in order to make decisions about their future and survival.

This is a milestone for the Red Door which would not have been possible without the tremendous support from our entire community and the more than 50,000 residents who signed the Save the Red Door petition which was presented at Council earlier today.
It's taken a tremendous effort from the staff and board at the Red Door, David Crombie and the Save the Red Door Working Group, and dedicated community members to get this far to ensure families can continue to live in dignity in an accepting community.

Getting the Red Door Shelter on secure footing was a big item on my to-do list before the end of term and shifting focus to the municipal election.

We are making great progress and today's decision by Council to explore all mechanisms, including financial options, which can be used to maintain the continuity of services provided by the Red Door on Queen St East is a game changer.

Thank you for all your support for the Red Door. I will keep you updated as new information becomes available.
