April 6 to 18 - Consultations seek public input on new arts and culture funding

This month, the City of Toronto is asking the public for input on how to spend and measure the impact of the new arts and culture funding that has recently become available from Third Party Sign Tax retroactive revenues.

Four public consultations will take place:

  • Saturday, April 6: 1 to 4 p.m., St. Lawrence Hall, 157 King St. E.
  • Monday, April 8: 6 to 9 p.m., Lakeshore Assembly Hall, 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Dr.
  • Tuesday, April 9: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Cedarbrae Library Auditorium, 545 Markham Rd.
  • Thursday, April 18: 6 to 9 p.m., Toronto Centre for the Arts, 5040 Yonge St.
  • "The new source of funding for Toronto's arts and culture sector will have a profound impact on Torontos cultural vitality, said Councillor Michael Thompson (Ward 37 Scarborough Centre), Chair of the City's Economic Development Committee. We need input from the public, as well as Toronto's cultural community, to help us decide where to invest these funds, and how to measure their effect."

In addition to these public consultations, an online survey is available until April 30 at http://fluidsurveys.com/s/city-of-toronto-cultural-services-creative-capital-investment/.

These public consultations are being presented by the City of Toronto and the Toronto Arts Council with the support of the Creative Capital Advisory Committee and the Beautiful City coalition.

The public's input will become part of a multi-year cultural funding implementation plan that will be presented to the City's Economic Development Committee in May.

More information about Council's recent decision on the new funding for arts and culture is available at http://app.toronto.ca/tmmis/viewAgendaItemHistory.do?item=2013.ED20.5.
