Petition: Applegrove Deserves a Permanent Home

Applegrove is an important organization in our community that has made a real difference in the lives of families, kids and seniors for over 40 years. Over 3000 local community members rely on Applegrove for programs, support and community connection every year.

They were the backbone of the development of the popular Food Hub on Gerrard at Glen Rhodes Church. Applegrove was instrumental in helping the tenants of Toronto Community Housing to navigate the ups and downs of the incredible redevelopment of Don Summerville on Eastern Avenue. During the pandemic they made it their business to have regular phone calls with hundreds and hundreds of isolated seniors.

Despite this incredible work in our community they have never had a permanent home.

Please tell the Mayor and City Council its time for Applegrove to have a permanent home.

In the early 1990’s  Applegrove had funding set aside for a permanent home but unfortunately the City took it away. Instead Applegrove remained in their leased space at the Duke of Connaught School on the same site as the S.H. Armstrong Community Centre.

Today is a tough time to be at the mercy of a leased space in a school which is bursting at the seams and the Provincial Government has taken over the TDSB.

Since 2019, I have been pushing at the City for a permanent home for Applegrove. Since then, a few opportunities have been identified.

On April 9th,  Councillors on the Economic and Community Development Committee will be discussing the future of Applegrove.

Please tell the Mayor and City Council its time for Applegrove to have a permanent home.
